2013-2014 School Year
Historical School Closings and Delays
Each year it seems that we have to close or delay school because of inclement weather. School closures or delays are a difficult decision in the best of situations. Cancellation of school takes place only during circumstances such as extreme weather, equipment failure, or public crisis. The school board and administrators are aware of the hardship which can be caused by an abrupt cancellation. Therefore, school will not be canceled unless a significant safety risk has been created by unusual circumstances.
When a decision is made, the school contacts the following radio and TV stations:
- TV: WHAS (11), WAVE (3), WLKY (32) and WDRB (41)
- RADIO: WHAS (840 AM)
School closing and delay information is also posted to the school website at www.nhcs.k12.in.us
- On days when the weather is a problem, be sure to monitor the radio and television stations. There are times when school may release early due to a dramatic change in the weather. Please have an emergency plan for your child should they be sent home early.
- Our first concern is always student safety. School closure is a big decision, and we are grateful for your understanding.
